Factors Impacting Prices at the Pump: CFTC

Gasoline prices have been tapering off in recent weeks. That’s good news for motorists as the summer driving season gets underway at month’s end. But concerns remain that something will send prices soaring again, be it global or geopolitical developments or even Wall Street market speculation. Bart Chilton, member of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), will offer his views on the degree to which speculators are to blame for price levels at the pump.

Dodd-Frank’s Reach on Commodity Trading

It’s been nearly two years since President Obama signed the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act into law, which mandated an overhaul of the nation’s financial regulatory system in the wake of economic recession. And its reach has not stopped at financials. CFTC’s Bart Chilton will discuss the likely impact of Dodd-Frank on energy commodities trading.

Who’s Benefiting from Using Smart Meters?

Platts Chief Editor Rod Kuckro will sit down with Peter Shaw, senior director of J.D. Power and Associate's smart energy practice, to learn more about the company’s latest findings in utility sector consumer behavior and the impact of intuitive energy efficiency tools.
