Policy and Regulation

In the United States, energy policy and regulation is expected to take on greater importance than in recent history as the administration of President Obama and Congress follow up on commitments to increase U.S. reliance on renewable energy and alternative fuels, expand energy efficiency and modernize the electricity grid, as well as curbing greenhouse gas emissions associated with climate change. In short, Washington is debating a transformation in the way the United States produces and uses energy.

Platts provides news coverage of such initiatives from the White House, through the federal agencies such as the Energy Department, Interior Department and the Environmental Protection Agency, as well as at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Our reporters also cover the votes, hearings and other activities in Congress that shape the legislation that authorizes and funds major new initiatives in energy and the environment.
